What if your business was homeless?
That’s tragic, isn’t it?
But there’s an easy fix.
Having your own website for your business is a necessity for anyone wanting to build their creative business online.
An Etsy shop is great for starters, but if you’re getting serious about growing your business, you must consider setting up your own site.
If you have the capital for it, invest in a professionally designed one. It doesn’t have to be a custom design that costs thousands of dollars.
You could purchase a theme for WordPress or Shopify without breaking the bank.
You won’t regret it – it helps with your branding, word of mouth marketing and essentially your customer’s shopping experience.
Why you need a website for your business
With a website, you’re setting your business up to be seen.
You’ll open up opportunities for yourself.
I’ve personally gotten book publishing deals, speaking gigs, retail sales, wholesale accounts to international department stores, dozens of press mentions… all because I have a website showcasing my work.
But here’s the thing: a handmade marketplace like Etsy won’t cut it.
You need a proper portal that’s set up to showcase information about you and what you have to offer to the world.
You need to style your website to reflect your brand so people can remember you and talk about you with their friends.
Once you have a website set up, then you can start to think about how to get traffic to your website (because it won’t come on its own).
If you’re thinking of starting your own business, this is the first step before taking on a million others.
If you’re already in business and you have a website, consider ways to make it more appealing:
- Does your website attract your ideal customers?
- Does it collect email addresses of the people visiting?
- Do you showcase your work with amazing photos?
- Do you show off your personality through your copywriting?
- Does it make people want to come back again?
- Does it make them want to tell their friends about you?

But what if you don’t have the money for a website?
You can get creative!

[…] Earlier this month I wrote about the FIRST thing that you need in your business. That was about having your own website. […]
weebly.com is a great place to start and get a website up and running and its free. Now if you do have a little bit to spend say 20 dollars a month but you pay it every 3 months is 1 and 1. They have a great team to help with all your needs and you will get a domain name and if you want a paypal button so people can pay for there items right on your site. Good Luck to all the Ladies and disabled people trying to make it in this economy and God Bless us all.
Thanks! There are some great tips sprinkled throughout this post. I never thought to do kickstarter or freelancer to set it up.
